Wrong-Shui: the best VD ever
I am SO gay For Beserk-ley!
Hey Everyone. Hope you had a sexyfull V-Day full of chocolate, snowstorms, bacon, tiny monkeys, hanky-panky and 6 dollar bottles of pink champage. Or whatever you're into.
My venereal day was the best EVER this year, consisting of 100ish beautiful art-lovin' strangers sandwiched in two 14 hour drives. I baked them cookies, gave them beer and saw them smile. It was helluv perfect.
Behold the photo documentation of the Wrong-Shui. The road was long. We left at 5AM on Friday morning and got into the bay area around 7:30PM, only stopping to refuel. The weather was beautiful, although a bit foggy. It was a little sketchy around Mount Shasta, where we hit a major snowstorm, but we got thru it and rolled up to the Firehouse shortly after 8PM. It looked like this.
If I'd had a little more energy, I might have been worried about pulling an art show together in this space for the following day but as it stood i was too tired and exhausted to care.
We grabbed some sushi (me, Kjell, Kjell's friend Tucker, and Airbo) and then headed back to the Saltbox to get a little shut-eye.
We were up and at 'em bright and early (around 7AM) to grab a coffee and head to the space.
Kjell and Tucker had just finished building a wall (called the iceberg) and the morning was spent installing molding, painting the walls, adjusting the current installations, and moving all the shit into the storage cabinent in the back alley.
Once we'd handled all that sheeeit, we moved onto the cleanup (it was SUPER dusty being a woodshop/ceramics studio) lighting and installation. By the time we were finishing hanging my paintings, it was almost five o'clock. I hadn't had a shower or anything to eat and was wearing the same clothes i'd woken up in the day before. Pretty sexy.
We rushed to SF where we were staying that night, I took a fast shower and we headed back to the space. I was a half hour late to my show, so by the time I arrived, there were already people checking out the work.
It's always SO exciting for me to see who comes out to shows. This opening was particularly wonderful because it's the first visual art show I've ever done out-of-state. Those of you who have followed my work for any length of time know I'm entirely unrepresented so- truth be told, i was pretty fuckin' uncertain as to whether or not anyone would show up. I decided to just look at this show as an experiment with booze and cookies.
As it turned out, my booze and cookies art experiement went swimmingly.
Here are some of the shots Lars took of all ya'll. I wish we'd gotten everyone. Thank you, Berkeley- I absolutely fell in love with your city, your energy and your super fly art-lovin' inhabitants. I hope you'll have me back sometime soon.
One of the highlights came later in the evening when two young women (Jordan in the boxers and Sally (i said Sarah at first- but it's SALLY) wearing upside down sunglasses and drinking out of a garbanzo bean can) wandered in. They'd never heard of Ween but after checking out my paintings, ran across the street and downloaded some. Then they came back like, "FUCK YEAH!!" Jordan bought a painting.
Thank you for supporting my rodeo, Jordan. You are one rad little lady.
Believe it or not, the whole reason she came in was because Jake Jake and I were staging high-five/fight scenes in the window.
The night was too short, despite going on for 2 hours longer than we were scheduled for.
I managed to keep it classy as HAY-ell the whole durn time.
Freegans.
Too bad that other guy got the "dirty santa" cookie... i think it might have been meant for this dude. I guess there's enough santa for all the children...
As a whole, the show was outstanding. The guys said we had more than 100 peeps. Even the skies, which have been dumping an unprecidented amount of rain decided to clear up for the evening (for realz, it stopped that afternoon and resumed around 3AM on the way back to our hotel.)
The only bullshit was that 7-11 was closed when we needed to restock for our post-party. I guess we got confused and thought 7-11 meant 24/7. Unbueno. Sometimes thinking is hard.
We did end up finding an open convenience store eventually. Where i dropped my ice cream on the ground. And then ate it anyway.
When we got back to the hotel, we got into the elevator to go up to our room. We all just stood there awhile, shooting the shit, before we realized the elevator wasn't moving. We figured we were all just balls to the wall and had forgotten to press the button. We pushed it again. No luck. The elevator wasn't moving so we all got off to ask at the desk how to get upstairs... as we were getting off, another dude was trying to get on. We warned him that the elevator wasn't going anywhere, but he didn't believe us and boarded anyway. A minute later, he came out. Lars said, "TOLD YOU SO! HAHAHAH!" and took his picture.
I don't know if ya'll will find this picture as funny, as I do. Maybe you had to be there.
(just chewin' his food and spittin' it in his mouth like any good momma bird would.)
Berkeley, Kjell, Tucker, Lars and Firehouse- thank you SO SO MUCH. I had the best time and I owe it all to you.
It was a long trip home, full of weather, smoking, crappy crappy food and carnies.
I took this from across Lars' lap. The photo doesn't even begin to touch how awesome this sunset was, but i tried.
In other news, I will be retreating from life once again to resume my art-making. It's gonna be a super-charged time for me, getting ready for my biggest party yet, set for Memorial Day weekend. I'll post more details when i have 'em but for now, let's just say I'm headed to the Bible Belt to praise some Jeebie, smoke some reebie and wrestle the ladies in kiddie pools. Bueno.
Speaking of praising Jeebie- Jake Jake shaved his fucking mustache off. What a b-hole.
Despite the fact that he turned out to be a totally lame human host for the mustache, I'll never picture his face without it again. And picturing his face is all I'll be doing, soon- as Jake Jake is moving to South Korea.
I'm not kidding. I wish I was. Fuck you Jake Jake. We do everything together. Now what? I guess you can just Skype me once you're living on mars and hating your life.
No seriously I'm proud of Jake Jake. Maybe when he comes back he'll deserve the mustache his genetics practically insist upon. And I'll finally have the answer to what in the hell I'd do without him. Maybe I'll have an art show in South Korea.
Anyway- enough about South Korea and mustaches.... I've got big wheels a'turnin' right now... I'll be revamping the whole site and planning a killer party. Please stay posted. I'm gonna be more on top of things than I've been lately.
Enough good sweet lovin' to curl your teeth,
Thea "hung like the wild ponies" Wolfe
P.S. The show at Columbia City Theatre went well, also.. thanks so much to everyone who came out. It's up for thru Feb, so if it tickes your fancy to check it out- head on down.

Done and Dusted
Freedom at long last...
Finally- the end of my creative jail-term. Last Wednesday I finished the body of work that has totally consumed me for the past six weeks. It doesn't seem like a long time, but let me tell you- this series has taken a helluva lot out of me. The newest of these works are now in my portfolio section if you wanna check them out, although I always feel compelled to give the disclaimer that they are really quite different in life and depending on where you stand, given the interference paints.
I am so grateful to be finished. I feel like I've finally fully graduated to the next stage in my soul's development. The end was tough... these final pieces took everything I had. I've literally been waking up, rolling out of bed and starting to work. I've been working an average of about 16 hours a day and only leaving the house once or twice a week.
I celebrated by hosting an unexpected open-mic on Wed night. Wow. Now that was a Clam Jam to remember. My friends are ridiculously talented. I know everyone says that, but in my case, it's actually true. Most everyone had to work the following day, but it was so beautiful that no one left till around 2:30 in the morning. Here are some PEEKchures (of their talent.)
The celebrating continued for the next three nights with lotsa partying and very little sleep. It was amazing. There were electric flute solos, chillow fights, inflatable mics, singing, dancing, bees and a Stallion.
We finally crashed around 7:30 AM on Saturday, sleeping on and off all day and solidly thru the night. Now I'm just trying to focus on spreading the word about my upcoming shows (especially the unveiling of my newest works in Berkeley, CA in a couple weeks.) For info about my shows, please visit the Shows section of my website. I have two gigs booked for Feb. Go check out the new pieces in my portfolio if you're so inclined.
Love,
Thea "perfectly unimaginary" Wolfe
P.S. I'm finally cool in Germany!! OH YA! (mommy and stallion in one mag!)
