Thanks SO MUCH to all of you who have hosted, promoted, attended, purchased or in any way helped to make the first half of 2009 such an exceptional run for me. I've gone through 17 states so far in the name of off-road art and feel blessed and grateful to have such an incredible grassroots network of supporters. I have no words for what I've experienced this year and I'm immensely appreciative.
With fall approaching, empty pockets and Lars' sick-days all used up, we've decided to stay mostly local for the remainder of the year. We are definitely planning to show a couple more times before reigning in the New Year (probably in Seattle, WA and Oakland, CA) so stay tuned.
In other news, I'm in the process of booking some east coast dates for spring- I have a venue secured in Brooklyn and some good leads in Jersey and Pennsylvania. These shows will probably take place in April or May, depending on the schedules of my hosts. I'm super excited about getting all the way back to the east coast. I've been working on making that happen for about a year and can't wait to do it up.
Hope to see you out there on this big, blue ball- till then, hope your life is beautiful as hell.
Grateful, joyful and lovin' you always,
Thea Wolfe
Dear friends,
As things have shifted in my world, I've come to realize it's no longer appropriate for me to throw art parties out of my home. For my long-term patrons (those of you who receive my classic snail-mail postcards) I may still occasionally do private/invite-only house showings, but I'll be shifting the majority of my energy toward taking my art out into the world. I'm ready to expand- and I'd like to kick off this leg of my life with an off-road art tour.
Getting word out about my work can be slow going, being unrepresented (and frankly, pretty damn uninvolved with that thing they call "art culture".) That's why I'm turning to you. If you or anyone you know has a space they'd be willing and able to have me in, please hit me up. I want to make contacts with potential hosts as soon as possible so I can make this happen. I mentioned it casually in my last blog and have already had an inspiring response. It's going to require quite a bit of advanced planning for me to pull this off- both financially and logistically, so if you have any ideas or a burning desire to be involved, please contact me ASAP. I'd be willing to show in a house, loft, warehouse, garage, open yard, field, bar, parking lot with a sweet boom-box..... almost anything comfortable, reasonably legal and well-lit. I am NOT looking to show in a traditional gallery setting.
I need to be clear that I cannot offer money. What I can offer is a piece of art in exchange for use of your space. I'll also provide wine, clean-up and high-fives to the point of exhaustion. I'm not looking for business people- I'm looking for true patrons of the arts who want to support an outsider artist tryin' to do her outsider-thang.
If you've ever wanted to contribute to the arts, this would be a great way to do so without getting f-ed in the wallet. Plus, you'll make new friends and get a brand spankin' new original piece.
